Dispatches from Nowhere 12.28.05

I'm late.

I spent the last two days in the car. Really it was all of one day and 4 or 5 hours the second day. I have seen parts of Alabama and Florida I didn't know existed. I have made wrong turns. In the last 24 hours I have left the interstate to follow a new route, had fresh, hot, krispy kremes, and eaten a bunch of my moms cookies. I have had some really good pizza, watched some really inane video games, and generally hung out with family.

The kids have exchanged all the remaining Christmas gifts and we have handed out the remaining gifts that we brought with us. I played games with my brother, heard funny stories about ranger school after the kids went to bed and to end my day, I fell asleep watching Serenity.

Not a bad day.

I went running this morning, found the local coffee hut, and right now, as I write this, it is raining.

It could be worse. I have Hannah on my lap, the house is quiet, and the rain is sort of soothing. Give it an hour and the rest of the family should be awake and bedlam will ensue.

Family is like that. No matter where we are, it almost always feels like home if we are together.

Enjoy the silence while it lasts.
